Our journey began in my grandmother’s home, the place where all our inspiration comes from. She was well known in the community for her sewing, making school uniforms, nurse uniforms, and beautiful custom clothing for many people. Her wool-woven jackets were especially loved and became a local favourite because of their quality and timeless style. Her love for sewing was passed down through the family. My mother inherited that passion, and later I fell in love with it too. The idea for Sagwati Knitwear and Textile grew from this family legacy, built on love, dedication, and true craftsmanship.
The name Sagwati comes from Xitsonga and means prize, gift, or treasure. To us, it represents something precious and hard earned, just like the skills and heritage behind our work. After years of learning and refining our craft, we opened our first official office using the same machines my grandmother gave me. These machines are deeply special to our family and were meant to empower me and the generations to come. Those machines produced our very first official orders, and every item we make still carries the same care, pride, and dedication that began in my grandmother’s sewing room.
